SARS efiling unrepentantly still unresponsive
23 Jul 2004
You'd think that multiple emails about SARS' electronic filing system not supporting anything but Internet Explorer on Windows, I'd at least get a reply saying they just don't care about their users. Well, I'm not the only one complaining, but at least they replied, even with ancient figures and bad reasoning. Let's see how well _this_ email works.

I fail to see how my four emails can be ignored without indicating some serious problem within the SARS efiling project. I'd like direct contact details for the head of the SARS efiling project, and their superior within SARS so that I can make an official complaint about the service I have received. I continue to be unimpressed that SARS can allow a public service such as this to only support one specific browser on one specific operating system and to not use accepted Internet standards. Surely a public service should not force people to pay for expensive software that they otherwise don't use or need? This is exacerbated by government's continuing promotion of Open Source, and Open Source's continuing inroads into various sectors in South Africa, such as the over 1000 computers running the Linux operating system in schools in the Western Cape over the past two years. I hope that I will receive some specific information on when you're planning to support these alternative platforms, given that you've been aware of the shortcomings of your service for a year now. Thanks, Neil
